Go Fit Mom Favorite Things!!! #7 DoTERRA FAMILY PHYSICIAN KIT

You knew it was coming! Essential Oils. I'm always looking to take the natural path whether it's a cold, aches and pains, lotions, supplements, kids boo boos, you name it....I have found the complete answer....doTERRA essential oils! My little Family Physician Kit of 10 common oils have done so much for us. I can use this one little box of oils for headaches, stomach aches, scrapes, funguses, relaxation, flavor, detox, cleaning, prevention, etc. etc. etc. One oil might have 50 uses!

Essential oils have been used for centuries in many cultures for their therapeutic qualities and have profound health benefits in the hands of experienced users. Single oils and even complex blends are effectively used in the following three ways:

1. Aromatic: The volatile nature of essential oils allows them to be easily evaporated and diffused throughout a larger space. Using this application method helps create an atmosphere where several individuals can enjoy the calming, stimulating, and soothing benefits of essential oils.

2. Topical: Essential oils are safely and easily absorbed by the skin allowing you to use a variety of topical application techniques to different parts of your body.

3. Internal: Whether you are taking capsules or the oil itself, essential oils can be used as dietary supplements supporting a variety of healthy conditions

Why doTERRA??
dōTERRA has set the bar for essential oil purity and potency through rigorous scientific research and advanced testing of each oil that is put into production. As you implement dōTERRA essential oils into your life, you will be able to see firsthand the CPTG difference.
There are two major factors that play a role in the effectiveness and quality of essential oils:

1. Plant Potency:

When selecting which plants are to be used for essential oil production, it is important that the plant is grown in the correct soil, temperature, and climate. When these factors are optimal, the plant will be able to reach its highest potency.

2. Oil Purity:

When oils contain fillers or other elements that dilute and alter their purity, their ability to function at their highest capacity is compromised. In order to enjoy all the benefits of essential oils, they must be used in their purest form.

Some of my kit lasted me over a year! Some even longer, some only a couple months depending on how much I use them. I fly through on guard and lemon!

I stared using over 2 years ago and once I started I couldn't stop. It's a good addiction ;) I love that my kids ask for them and I always have a natural solution to anything we come across. I AM in control! Don't think I'm anti-doctors. We go when we have to. I just try everything I can before it gets to that point.

So what do I use daily?
  • Lemon in my water
  • calming blend on my wrists and neck
  • diffuse on-guard and lemon or lime daily for prevention (anti bacterial, anti viral, cleansing)
  • on-guard and lemon in morning and at night on bottoms of kids feet (where our body absorbs most rapidly).
  • diffuse lavender and sometimes blends of others for restful nights sleep
  • As other things come up in our day I reach for my oils!

If you are into natural health, prevention, eating clean, and keeping your family chemical free, doTERRA is for you!!

How do you get your own kit??

Go Fit Mom Favorite Things!!! #8 Coconut Oil!

Oh Coconut Oil! I could talk about it for days. I've been using coconut oil for about 7 years on a daily basis. I learned about all the uses for it from a holistic health counselor. She taught me about it's stability when cooking and how it's healthy saturated fat actually helps burn fat! She was making her clients take a tablespoon per day of it. That was a crazy thought to me! Eating straight fat like that? I also started lathering it on my pregnant belly and wow, that was amazing. So...I was hooked on it.
Coconut oil typically comes in a jar and is hard in cold temperatures and melts in warm temps. Just scooping it in your hand and rubbing your hands will melt the oil and it's ready to apply. Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and anti viral. It is moisturizing, it smells amazing, it tastes amazing...need I say more?  I buy my coconut oil in a very large container at Costco now and refill my small jars that are in my bathroom and my kitchen! My husband loves that I use the same stuff I put all over my body in his eggs ;)
You can also buy coconut oil at Trader Joe's, Schnucks, Aldi and even Walmart has large selection. You can buy a jar for about $5.99....and trust me...you will be back for more!

What do I use coconut oil for? Just some of my daily uses for it are....
  • moisturizer for my entire body after every shower (no harmful chemicals!)
  • face moisturizer (with a little Frankincense oil)
  • eye makeup remover
  • sautéing veggies or eggs
  • on toast or waffle like butter
  • in my hair for flyaways or before straightening
  • as a carrier oil for applying essential oils to my kids
These are just my EVERYDAY uses! Want more uses? Here are 101 for you!

I can't wait to make sunscreen this summer with coconut oil and essential oils!
Do you know anything about oil pulling?? I couldn't put this in my everyday list because I'm on and off with my routine, but I have a whole book on oil pulling and the benefits of it! I really noticed the whiter teeth within a week of doing it. It's a big commitment though. Here's more on that....

For more on what coconut oil can do for your health...here is another article. As I mentioned on my page before....I'm #3!

Go Fit Mom's Favorite Things!!! #9 Spark!

I'm sure you can already guess what some of my favorite things are, the things I use EVERY day because I am a creature of habit. Some things I love so much that I just have to share. I thought it would be fun to share my top 10 favorite health and fitness products...well at least most of them. I'll be counting them down, in really no particular order because I don't think I could live without any of them. I'll let you know why I love it, where you can get it, how to use it...etc!

#9 Advocare Spark!

I first had a Spark about 2 years ago when my mom signed on to the 24 day challenge with Advocare. She had me taste the Spark energy drink and I was like...."Wow, that's yummy!" Only I was thinking..."Yeah, I wonder what's in this?" The flavors are all amazing and they have lots of vitamins, amino acids, and only 15 calories! Now it is kind of sweet and although it is sugar free, it still has sucralose which basically is Splenda and I'm not really a fan of Splenda, but all that aside I will tell you why I love it! It IS NOT DIET SODA!! And for me, that's a big seller. I'm that person who has the mid afternoon crash and who at dinner time would normally want to reach for a diet pepsi and a little snack. Instead, I have an afternoon Spark each day and NO SNACK! Spark does also contain caffeine, so if you don't want the caffeine I wouldn't suggest it. I drink a bit too much of it, I will admit between my coffee and Spark, but I have quit soda all together, so I'm thankful to Spark for that!
Spark comes in 7 flavors. Fruit Punch, Green Apple, Mandarin Orange, Strawberry Mango, Pink Lemonade, Watermelon, and Grape. Seriously, several of them remind you of a jolly rancher! My favs are Fruit Punch and Green Apple!

Now you may also be wondering what Advocare is? Advocare is a health and wellness company offering energy, weight loss, and sports nutrition products. They are a multi level marketing company that stands behind their products and they have many professional athletes who also do! They are very popular for their 24 day challenge which I have never myself done, but I do like a few of the products. I have purchased retail for a long time until it just made sense to join as a distributor. I only joined for the discount as I have too many other business ventures to promote Advocare as a business, but if you are interested in products you can visit my page and purchase through it still.

https://www.advocare.com/160226754/default.aspx

If you have real questions relating to products, the 24 day challenge or anything Advocare business related I would suggest you talk to Kristen Gartland who got me started using the products and who an expert on Advocare! Kristen's email address is Kristengrtlnd@gmail.com

Go Fit Mom's Favorite Things!!! #10 Pandora Radio

#10 Pandora Radio!

I'm sure you have the app on your phone or listen to Pandora at work. It's one of my favorite things because I use it DAILY for my fitness classes and personal workouts! I've been instructing for 15 years now and let me tell you what a difference Pandora has made in my classes! Back in the day it was CD's. You had to constantly buy new workout CD's that were expensive or cheesy and carry them around and rotate them. Then we got ipods and had to constantly buy new songs at $.99 and make new playlists and you thought you'd puke if you heard that playlist again!
Pandora has made no two classes of mine the same! It goes on for hours and if you find the right channel you could workout for hours (Ok, not really), but it helps right? So what are my favorite fitness/workout channels? Grab your phone. Open your app. Enter these now!

  1.  80's Cardio Radio (if you want to take it back to the old aerobics days)
  2.  Dance Cardio Radio (pop, funky, upbeat)
  3.  Classic Rock Power Workout Radio (the men in my classes love this one)
  4.  Pop Fitness Radio (all the latest, if you want to feel young :)
  5.  80's Hip Hop Radio (taking me back to the DARE dances!)
  6.  Country Fitness Radio (I don't so much use this in classes, but if you like Country)
  7.  Hip Hop BBQ Radio (Always a favorite with the 30 somethings! Love me some Hip Hop)
  8.  Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout Radio (a little mix of old and new)
  9.  90's Hip Hop Radio (My ALL Time FAVORITE for personal workouts!)
  10.  Salt-N-Pepa Radio (MY NEW FAV!! Yes, I still know every word of "None of your Buisness" and I will sing it out loud! Seriously ladies...you're welcome!)
I know...you want to go workout right now don't you??

Oh, I forgot to mention I upgraded to Pandora ONE--- ZERO commercials! Only $4.99 per month and extremely worth it for me. If you won't use it that often, maybe you don't want to pay that, but my classes keep everyone singing, laughing and ROCKING their workouts!!

What are your favorite channels? Share them with me!

Joy

Why I love and share essential oils...

I'm sure many of you are skeptical of essential oils. After all they are trending right now, so people assume they are just a fad or a sales scheme for a product that doesn't really work. Yes, I have been involved with some of these things before where I really want them to work (especially diets, wraps, anti-aging products), but the reality was....they just didn't work for me and I couldn't promote a product that didn't give me results!

I was never skeptical of essential oils, however, because I've been on this health journey a very long time and fortunately for me my journey took a turn when I started working with a holistic health counselor at a premier club I was working at where our approach to health and fitness was "whole life". I started learning about healthy eating instead of the latest diets and I learned so much about alternative treatments for health, illness and ailments. Essential oils have been around for thousand of years! They aren't something new and they are just for hippies :)- If you know me, you already know about my obsession with coconut oil, so you will sort of understand my recent obsession with the essential oils!

I am not an "organic" mom by any means. I love the idea of it, but lets face it, it's hard and expensive! My kids do eat junk...a lot more of it than I like to admit and I'm lucky if I get them to eat a few veggies and fruits a day. It's not easy. But....we do take vitamins, we try not to take medicine, I keep them very active and limit screen time and we use essentials oils on a DAILY basis.

I use and share doTERRA essential oils because they are therapeutic grade! That means they are 100% pure and can be used internally, aromatically, and topically. Not all essential oils are created equal and if you buy oils from a health food store (yes, we like to think a health food store is quality) majority of them cannot be ingested because they are made from synthetic materials or have only a small % of the actual oil in it and the rest is carrier oil. If you are going to use essential oils, only go therapeutic grade!

On a daily basis we use a preventive blend on our feet and in our diffuser to kill virus and bacteria, we use them in our water to flavor and detox, we use them on bumps, bruises, headaches, burns, sore muscles, and we use them to sleep at night. Really anything that comes up, my answer is, "I have an oil for that!" It is really nice to know that I have these little drops of goodness to reach for instead of meds and harmful chemicals.

If you'd like to learn more you can visit my site www.mydoterra.com/gofitmom or email me at gofitmomstl@gmail.com
I'd love to help you and your family get started using doTERRA.

Non-Sandwich School Lunch Ideas!

God love pinterest, but when it comes to school lunches I thought, "are you serious? Who has time for all that? No mother I know!!" All the cutesy cut sandwiches and faces made with fruit, the egg salad and tofu...things your kids would never eat! I tried to gather 10 school lunches that I thought were reasonable and that my children might actually eat! No offense if you are that super creative and fun mom, but this mom "ain't got time for that!!":)

1.       Turkey, cheese and hummus pinwheels

-          Spead hummus on tortilla, lay out turkey and cheese and roll. Cut into 1 inch pieces

-          What to put with it: apples  and popcorn

2.       Mini Bagel Pizzas (homemade)

-          Either give the child the ingredients in their lunch to make on their own, or assemble at home.

-          What to put with it: Strawberries and yogurt

3.       Homemade Lunchables

-          Cut up ham or turkey, cheese and add triscuits.

-          What to put with it: carrots and dip, granola bar

-          What to put with it: apples and peanut butter

5.       Hard boiled eggs

-          Boil a dozen hard boiled eggs on Sunday. My kids happen to love them and they are good for snacks for mom too!!

-          What to put with it: grapes, wheat thins, yogurt

6.       Whole wheat bagel with cream cheese

-          Use mini bagels and use different flavors of cream cheese. My kids love pumpkin in the fall!

-          What to put with it: banana, chips or crackers

7.       Cereal

-          Yes, cereal is a good option, especially if your child gets milk at lunch! What could be easier?

-          What to put with it: strawberries and go-gurt

8.       Cheese Quesadilla

-          Choose spinach, tomato, or flour tortilla and melt cheese and cut into triangles

-          What to put with it: cherry tomatoes with ranch and toast (as garlic bread)

10.   Lunch Kabobs

-          Use a skewer (cut in half) or toothpicks to make mini kabobs using whatever your child likes…salami, grape tomatoes, cheese (or cut string cheese), turkey, cucumber, even grapes or other fruits.
